Flat concrete roof slabs rarely fail all at once. More often, a section that was never properly waterproofed, or a membrane that has simply reached the end of its life, starts letting moisture through the surface a little at a time until cracks appear. This case study follows a typical roof slab waterproofing project: an exposed concrete slab with no protective system in place and cracking already underway, brought back to a single, sealed, watertight surface.
The problem
The slab had been left completely exposed, with no waterproofing membrane covering the concrete at all. Months of sun, rain and temperature swings had caused the bare surface to crack in several places, and those cracks were widening with every wet season. Without a coating to shed water, rain was sitting directly on the concrete and working its way into the hairline splits.
The solution
Rather than a quick surface patch, the applicator followed a full ArmTec reinforced waterproofing sequence built for exposed slabs:
- Prep and clean. High-pressure washed and degreased the entire slab.
- Priming. Applied Penetrar primer across the substrate.
- Crack bridging. Reinforced every crack with Flex and StretchSeal membrane.
- Reinforced membrane. Installed the ArmTec system over the full slab, embedding reinforcing mesh into a HyperFlex coat.
- Topcoat. Finished with a HydroSeal HF topcoat for a durable, UV-stable surface.
The result
The slab now reads as one continuous, sealed membrane, with no exposed concrete and no open cracks for water to exploit. The reinforced system is built to flex with normal thermal movement rather than split under it.
